Intelligent Addressing Ltd (IA) has recently passed a surveillance audit for its Information Security Management System (ISMS), an essential aspect of its certification to ISO/IEC 27001:2005, the ISO Information Security Standard which it attained in autumn 2010. IA has also been recommended for continued certification to ISO 9001:2000 for the third year running. This continuation of IA's ISMS and ISO 9001 certification shows that IA takes information security very seriously and has the ability to manage its business to the highest professional standards.
Adoption of formal quality and information security systems is a part of IA's process oriented approach, designed to efficiently deliver the best quality data possible, whilst maintaining its security and integrity. The Information Security Standard requires management to systematically examine its information security risks, taking into account threats, vulnerabilities and impacts. The auditor was impressed by IA's pragmatic approach to implementing and managing the ISMS and also how it dovetails in well with IA's Quality Management System (QMS). He commented on how both systems make optimum use of technology to streamline the operations of IA's business and avoid the often experienced overhead of masses of hardcopy documentation.
Of particular note is that this success has been achieved in the challenging environment of the sale of Intelligent Addressing to GeoPlace, the production of the national address gazetteer and the transition from Intelligent Addressing Ltd to Intelligent Addressing LLP.
Michael Nicholson, Managing Director of IA Ltd said "this is an exceptional achievement for a company of our size and our success is due to perseverance and hard work in a changing work environment. The longer term goal for these systems is to integrate the QMS and ISMS into one over-arching management system to give efficiencies in the overall process and enable combined audits."
On 31 March 2011, IA Ltd was acquired by GeoPlace, the joint venture between the Local Government Group and Ordnance Survey to produce the national address gazetteer. The achievements made by IA in gaining and maintaining ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 will be carried through in GeoPlace, leaving a valuable legacy and strong business foundation for GeoPlace to benefit from. Intelligent Addressing LLP is a partnership between Michael Nicholson and Tony Black who are taking forward the IA brand.
