GeoPlace builds the core location data that underpins service delivery right across the public sector, to the emergency services, and to businesses right across the UK. Join GeoPlace, and you’ll be part of the UK’s biggest shared service.
GeoPlace is owned equally by the Local Government Association (LGA) and Ordnance Survey (OS). We collate, manage and maintain the UK’s primary authoritative address and street data. This information is made available to customers via the AddressBase products and addressing services created by Ordnance Survey and their partners, and through the National Street Gazetteer.

Data: managing our data flows
Products: developing our products
Insights: analysing, developing, making location-data insights available
Business Services: looking after our business (things like governance, IT, and HR)

Why we want you
We have a strong skills’ base, but we’re expanding. We need new skills and want people with drive and enthusiasm to help us on our mission. Every member of staff is valued for their individual potential, and we’re excited about what you can help us achieve.
How we work. Daily, quarterly, yearly...
Day-to-day activities are overseen by the Delivery Group, made up of managers from each team in the company, who steer business operations, set policies, and review problems. Engagement with external organisations is handled by the Stakeholder Group who focus on increasing adoption and uptake of our products. There are also several sub-groups, which include people from around the company, that focus on specific business areas, such as data quality, HR, business continuity, and environment.
We plan strategy and budgets annually but break down work into quarterly objectives which are owned by the relevant team but prioritised at a company level. The teams decide for themselves whether they deliver those as team objectives or set objectives for individuals. Sometimes there'll be collaborative working but most of the time people work on specific tasks by themselves.
For some jobs there are particularly hectic periods, but for most part you can expect to be constantly busy. There will be a lot of meetings for some jobs. Ask the recruiting manager for more information.
We don't do annual performance appraisals because we found they add little value, so we do ongoing assessments with regular check-in meetings and 360 reviews. We don't base bonuses on individual performance. We believe that if the company is successful then everyone played a part in that and everyone should be rewarded for it.

Management approach
We don't do formal top-down project management because we found it wasn't effective for the sort of work we do, so we take a more flexible and realistic approach with each team deciding for themselves how best to get the work done.
We're human so we sometimes make mistakes. When that happens, we treat it as a learning opportunity, so we review what happened (in a blameless way) and find out how to stop it happening again.
We encourage people to make suggestions, but we don't do things on a whim. We're a data company so we like hard facts and deep research.
