Intelligent Addressing appoint Gayle Gander

Posted: 01 October 2006

Intelligent Addressing have appointed Gayle Gander as Head of Marketing.

Gayle has over ten years experience in the GI industry including positions as Deputy Director of the AGI (Association for Geographic Information) and Head of Central Government Sales at Getmapping. She brings to IA a wide range of experience and contacts at a crucial time in the delivery of the NLPG and NSG projects.

Gayle will be responsible for promoting both the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and the National Street Gazetteer (NSG) to local authorities, emergency services, central government and businesses. The NLPG provides key address reference data to Unitary, District and County Councils, the Police, Fire and National Park services, the Valuation Office Agency and others, whereas the NSG supports the electronic transfer of street works notifications between local highway authorities and utility companies.

In 2005 Intelligent Addressing landed the key local government contract, the Mapping Services Agreement (MSA), for the supply, maintenance and collation of local authority address and street gazetteers throughout England and Wales. Gazetteers are databases of local addresses, which also contain objects that do not have a postal address such as bus shelters, war memorials, radio masts, advertising hoardings, car parks etc. The gazetteers are playing a vital part in helping local government deliver joined-up and cost-effective services to citizens.

Notes to Editors:

The NLPG was initiated in 1999 to become the master address dataset for England and Wales and the central hub for the 376 address creating Local Authorities and their Local Land and Property Gazetteers (LLPGs). Based on unique property reference numbers (UPRNs) the underlying principle of these gazetteers is to provide a single definitive ad dress database for all departments and systems across a local authority in order to cut costs, improve efficiency and service delivery.

The dataset enables various local authority departments - from revenue collection and environmental health, to social security, the electoral roll and education - to now offer true âjoined up' government. The benefits also go beyond service delivery. Fraud prevention, tax collection and disaster planning all benefit from the fact that each property is given a âUnique Property Reference Number' which transcends (property) numbers, names, descriptions (such as âThe Nursing Home') and postcodes. UPRNs are assigned for the full life of the plot and/or building.

Intelligent Addressing is a specialist private sector consultancy (an SME) employing recognised experts in addressing. It was originally set up to help develop the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) on behalf of local government and now manages the NLPG and NSG central data hubs under the terms of the Mapping Services Agreement (MSA) with local government.
