Linking schools, health, and GP data for better child outcomes
Joseph Leach, Data Architect, London Borough of Tower Hamlets
A research methodology used to understand the effect of introducing Universal Free School Meals on body mass index, school attendance/attainment, and doctor utilisation. Using standard location identifiers, we join school and primary care data in space (home address) and time (school/doctor registrations). The National Child Measurement Programme and GP datasets are encrypted with the same key, so that resident and patient data can be anonymously linked to support research into public service health determinants.

Pre-census address matching: Unlocking Enhanced Funding for Kingston upon Thames & Sutton
Timothy Langner Gazetteer Officer at The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames
The gazetteer team at the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and Sutton Council, ensured that address data was as accurate as possible prior to the 2021 Census. This involved engaging with their regulatory services department to gather information on houses in multiple occupation. In addition, information on student halls of residence,
traveller sites, and houseboats was obtained, some of which involved street naming and numbering of addresses. The resulting increase in data quality led to more accurate funding allocations. This talk examines the steps taken prior to the Census and how new addresses and properties were discovered as a result. -
Developing resilience: coordinated emergency planning and support for the vulnerable in the southwest of England
Chris Manuel, Community Resilience Lead Officer, Wiltshire & Swindon Prepared (LRF)
Responding to emergencies together as multi-agency partners has proven to be the most effective method – it is something we see carried day in day out on the ground.
The area we are perhaps less well versed in is our information sharing in particular in relation to vulnerable people that might require additional assistance in an emergency.
Wouldn’t it be great to know exactly where the vulnerable live, be able to pin-point what building type they are in and even send in responders with appropriate skills?
Through work with OS and using UPRNs we think we might be nearly there! -
