Acacia pilot project

Posted: 23 July 2003

The Acacia Board has appointed location technology supplier Blue 8 to assist the Acacia Team by providing supplementary data management & technical skills in addition to those already deployed on the Acacia Pilot Projects.

Their appointment represents an important first stage in the pilot projects, which are designed to test how best to join up existing address datasets and geographies and then maintain the datasets and linkages between them .
The pilot projects will NOW be carried out in Buckinghamshire and Basingstoke local authority areas. The Buckinghamshire Pilot replaces earlier plans for pilots in South Gloucestershire and a Scottish Local Authority.
It is envisaged that Nottingham-based Blue 8 will bring the additional resources that Acacia requires to achieve completion of the project to a challenging programme. Blue 8 won the contract against strong competition from other bidders.
Acacia is a joint programme being pursued in consultation with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) by four government departments (Ordnance Survey, Land Registry, Registers of Scotland and the Valuation Office Agency), the Local Government Information House and Royal Mail.
The aim is to assist in the development of a properly integrated and maintained national infrastructure of definitive addresses, street names, non-addressable properties, land ownership and occupancy parcels, and other property information, all related to definitive mapping and building on existing initiatives.
