'Everything Happens Somewhere' Conference and Exhibition 2011

Conference, exhibition and presentation of the National Gazetteers Exemplar Awards 2011
Thursday 3 November 2011, Albert Hall, Nottingham, UPRN 200001402170, TOID 1000022976803

The overall theme for the conference this year was ‘Working together across the public sector'. This signifies the new working relationships across the public sector under the PSMA and the critical importance of the work that custodians undertook in the development and maintenance of the National Address Gazetteer Database which became available to the whole of the public sector as the AddressBase™ range of products from Ordnance Survey at the end of September 2011.

Addresses are used by local government and their partners in the fire and rescue services, police forces and national parks, to link their information and systems to transform and improve services whilst generating real operational savings. Address and street information underpin many innovative applications in local government and are used to build GI services underpin CRM, Electoral Roll, local taxation, planning, education, highways, housing and the myriad of other local government services.

Themes within the conference included:

  • working together across the public sector

  • the importance of location to service delivery

  • sharing costs by sharing services

  • using place based asset management for costs savings

  • collaborating to create collective resources across local areas

  • linking data for better decision making and service delivery

  • working collaboratively to transfer information across local government and the blue light services

  • achieving efficiency savings through joined up data

  • approaches to and the importance of sharing data across different agencies and partnership working.
