Helping The London Fire Brigade Identify High-Rise Residential Buildings

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) and QBiz have worked closely together, using GeoPlace and OS data, to help to make London safer. They have been exploring how to leverage data for better decision making and planning in the fighting and prevention of fires.

By using Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and Topographic Identifiers (TOIDS), the LFB can identify and inspect the buildings that are the highest, and the highest priority. Read more in this blog by Riccardo Scott, Data Scientist at Qbiz.

Using the Local Land and Property Gazetteer to identify HMOs (Houses in Multiple Occupation)

HMOs are an important form of accommodation. A building is classed as an HMO if it is let as a main or only home to at least three tenants forming more than one household. Large or small, they share facilities such as a kitchen, bathroom or toilet. HMOs with five or more tenants require a licence.
